Early Years
At Blennerhasset School we have an Early Years Unit. This is the class where children in Nursery and Reception spend their time. Our children have access to a range of open ended resources and are supported in all areas of their learning and development by experienced, passionate and nurturing staff.
The resources are organised into areas of continuous provision so that the children can access the resources independently and so that they learn where to find things and where to put them back once they have finished with them.
Throughout the day, Nursery and Reception children spend extended periods of time in continuous provision both indoors and outdoors as well as short, discreet, adult directed sessions for phonics, reading, mathematics and PSHE.
We focus on the needs and interests of our children at all times and place great emphasis on promoting key skills of communication and language such as, speaking and listening as well as aspects of personal social and emotional development such as, building relationships, developing confidence and cooperation.
This is what our indoor learning environment looks like!
The classroom is organised into areas of provision to enable our children to access the resources they need independently. We encourage the children to make choices in their learning and developing independent learning and autonomy is very important to us.
